Irrespective of the source, all of our collectables meet our strict grading and are 100% guaranteed. One book holds the nine LPs, while the other is a gorgeous 60-page coffee table book that incorporates Sylvie Simmons' extensive liner notes, drawn from five days of interviews at Cash's home in Tennessee, as well as Cash and Rubin's comments on every song on the set, plus a copious selection of photographs from the recording sessions, including some of the last photos ever taken of Cash.

Unearthed was originally released as a CD box set by producer Rick Rubin’s American Recordings in November 2003, two months after the country superstar’s passing. The Johnny Cash Unearthed box set was originally issued on CD in 2003, just two months after Cash’s death. Note: All tracks previously released, although "Thirteen" features an additional verse that was omitted from its original album release. Those who bought the recent vinyl box set of American I-VI have every right to be upset that Unearthed wasn't included. I don't know, maybe for lack of space, legal stuff (the duet with Joe Strummer on Marley's "Redemption Song" is out of this world), whatever, but even the weakest track is a good one; I like them a lot, all have that touch that only Cash is capable to imprint in them.

I've heard sets of outtakes before where people take an "it is what is is" attitude and you're just thankful to have a few extra tracks to listen to even if they aren't very good. To celebrate the Man in Black’s enduring and influential legacy, American Recordings and UMe have reconfigured this monolithic collection for its first-ever vinyl release, spreading Unearthed’s 79 songs over nine high-quality 180-gram vinyl LPs while expanding the original box's distinctive packaging for the long-playing format. If you have big fingers be careful because it can be foolishly riped or damaged since the "accordion" jackets to insert the discs don't "spread" or open as wide as you may think, so take this in consideration. The fourth disc, My Mother's Hymn Book, features gospel songs Cash first learned from his mother as a child and was later reissued as a standalone album in 2004. Who's Gonna Cry focuses on acoustic solo recordings, and finds Cash revisiting several classic songs from his legendary catalog. One book holds the nine vinyl records while the other is a 60-page coffee table book which contains Sylvie Simmons’ sleeve notes, Cash and Rubin’s comments on every track and plenty of photos from the recording sessions.

John enjoyed a much deserved critical renaissance in latter years being courted by the likes of Bono and Nick Cave, and this fusion of modern songwriting influences and the true Country story-teller roots of JC's work make this a five star box set. Most riveting are the numerous traditional numbers, the songs that were clearly closest to the Man in Black's heart. The first three discs feature outtakes and alternate versions of songs recorded for American Recordings, American II: Unchained, American III: Solitary Man and American IV: The Man Comes Around. Neither are the definitive statements that some of Cash's covers from this period are (his glorious takes on Nick Lowe and Danzig, to name just two), but they're still very much worth hearing. For example, there's an incredible version of The Devil's Right Hand, a song recorded by the Highwaymen in the mid-90s, but Cash's sparse version, accompanied only by an electric guitar, is by far the superior performance. Compiled by producer Rick Rubin, this collection contained mostly previously unreleased material recorded during the four albums (a fifth was released posthumously) that Cash had cut with Rubin for his American Recordings label. Man hört viele B-Seiten der "American Anthology", viele Goodies wie alternative Takes und Neuinterpretationen von Klassikern. Let the Lower Lights Be Burning" was previously recorded by Cash for his 1962 album Hymns from the Heart. Rolling Stone named it as one of the “100 Best Albums of the 2000s” and declared the set "a slice of American culture as monumental, and as enduring, as Mt.
