Axel Scheffler is a star illustrator whose instantly recognizable, warm and witty illustrations have achieved worldwide acclaim and numerous awards. I really enjoy getting the children in the audience to help me act out the stories and sing the songs. My daughter has thoroughly enjoyed this book and all of the other books in the Tales of Acorn Wood series since she was about 8 months old. With sturdy flaps on every spread and rhyming stories that are a joy to read aloud, Cat's Cookbook joins the bestselling Tales from Acorn Wood which have been delighting parents and children for over twenty years. A slight shame about this book and the other books in the series is that some of the flaps are very small, and therefore fragile. Best known for her collaborations with Axel Scheffler, each of these vivid rhyming stories is a triumph of imagination. the problem is four pop ups are the same - books and the kiddo is not really interested in discovering tiny differences between them.

We work separately – he’s in London and I’m in Glasgow – but he sends me letters with lovely funny pictures on the envelopes.

Given that they are a series for the youngest kiddos, you would think the creators would plan for some rip-proofing or at least rip-reduction in their designs; sadly not. More about Julia: “I grew up in a tall Victorian London house with my parents, grandmother, aunt, uncle, younger sister Mary and cat Geoffrey (who was really a prince in disguise. I brought the whole collection of the books but I think this one is my favourite- the only downside is they’re annoyingly catchy and memorable so I end up wandering round saying the words which really just sums up maternity leave life lol!

Further books illustrated by Axel include Room on the Broom, Stick Man, Zog and The Smeds and the Smoos – all of which have been made into much-loved animated films by Magic Light Pictures.

Her other books include The Hospital Dog illustrated by Sara Ogilvie, The Christmas Pine illustrated by Victoria Sandøy and the hugely successful What the Ladybird Heard adventures illustrated by Lydia Monks. uk will use the information you provide on this form to be in touch with you and to provide updates and marketing.

Axel’s artwork is exhibited internationally; he has illustrated for many charities and designed the Royal Mail Christmas stamps in 2012. This prompted me to unearth some plays I’d written for a school reading group, and since then I’ve had 20 plays published. All of the series are great for animal recognition and I have loved seeing my daughter initially point to, and now name the different animals.

Lift the flaps and join in the fun with Cat’s Cookbook, a story in the bestselling Tales from Acorn Wood preschool series by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, creators of The Gruffalo. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

More lift-the-flap adventures from Acorn Wood: Squirrel's Snowman, Mole's Spectacles and Badger's Band. My daughter has broken flaps in previous books in this series and I wonder if it’s a matter of time before she rips one of these - I’m thinking the particularly teeny and fiddly green book.
