About this deal

Turner explains that the mission in Afghanistan was linked to a Pashtun elder, later identified as Emal Zadran, and theorizes that Morgan, the strange men, and some higher-ups in the army's chain of command (named in the story as Romeo and Juliet) are working together to protect him. There are still the logical inconsistencies that plague this series for me but I suppose that I've read so many now that I've beefed up my suspension of disbelief muscles. I’m sure deep down he’s always itching for a fight but he does have an inner strength that reins it in.

There is a flaw I'll mention: what ends up being the true motive behind everything is one that would have occurred to Reacher and the good guys but isn't mentioned until the last few pages. It wouldn't be fair to say any more; needless to say the story proceeds as long-time Reacher fans will expect. NOTE: I reread the four-book sequence that I admire so much and am convinced again that "The Enemy" and "Without Fail" are the two best thrillers I've ever read, both as thrillers and as wonderfully crafted novels. C. to rendezvous with the intriguing female voice on the phone (belonging to the 110th's new commanding officer) that certainly piqued his interest in a few of the preceding novels. This is, I think, the only Reacher novel in which he never directly confronts the architects of the conspiracy. In this 18th Reacher suspense/adventure story, said retired military policeman finally reaches his former unit headquarters on the outskirts of Washington, D. and the guy went down so fast and so hard it was like someone had bet him a million bucks he couldn’t make a hole in the dirt with his face. In this one our ex-military policeman hero Reacher breaks the mold by teaming with a twin, the new female chief of his former MP unit.

He should have read Reachers file in a bit more detail and he would have known, like us, that Reacher was never one to really pay much heed to those regulations the first time round and so we knew he wasn't going to pay much attention to them on this little merry go round. I like the routine stuff: the coffee drinking, the luggage load of a toothbrush and nothing more, the alarm clock in his head and all the rest.

His destination, the closest thing to a home he ever had: the headquarters of his old unit, the 110th Military Police. Reacher is finally in Virginia to meet Susan whom he met in 61 Hours, 14, and there have been three books in between 61 Hours and this one. to the old office he remembers so well, the new commander (Major Susan Turner) has been relieved of command, locked away in a cell and there are charges pending against Jack (Reacher).

The two find her car and leave, but are intercepted by Metro police and end up ditching their ride and fleeing to Berryville, where Reacher informs Turner that her men in Afghanistan were assassinated, and that the charges against her were invented to cover up some sort of illegal activity. Never Go Back was another fantastic instalment in this series and the book where Reacher finally gets to Virginia after whole books worth of delays.why he discards human relationships, and in a way forced him to abandon that and bring us into more novels where he might struggle with his former life while living a new existence. There was a raucous through-the-wall heater, which would be too noisy to sleep with, which would save the owner money on electricity. Even when the tale is told in the third person, as this is, the reader is essentially Reacher for the few days it takes to live through the latest adventure. And as usual, he is soon in personal jeopardy, and as usual, his sense of justice rides to rescue Turner. Reacher kept it going long enough to let their momentum establish, and then he whipped back through the reverse quarter circle toward them, by which time he was moving just as fast as they were, two hundred and fifty pounds about to collide head-on with four hundred, and he kept on twisting and threw a long left hook at the left-hand guy.

Now, he's just pimping a bunch of meaningless words and instructions to Reacher, as if he is going to change Reacher into a Tom Cruise type. Welcome to the relentless world of Jack Reacher and his impressive tendency to be in the wrong place at the right time. Earlier that same day, Reacher had arrived at the headquarters of his old unit, the 110th MP Special Investigations Unit, to meet with its commander, Major Susan Turner. There are some nuances about Reacher, that are part of the package of who he is, that are missing, or misleading in this latest book.Reacher fights, aiming to find Turner and clear his name, barely a step ahead of the Army, the FBI and the D. He has had occasion to talk to the new commander of his old outfit (the 110th Military Police) and he liked her voice. We are constantly expected to believe, for instance, that Reacher would be bound to be convicted of the homicide charge because the victim swore an affidavit saying Reacher had been his assailant and, since the victim was dead and couldn't be cross examined, the charge would have to succeed.
