Our Swaddlebags come in two sizes: 0-3 months (7-13lbs 8oz/3.2-6.1kg and up to 62cm in height) and 3-6 months (from 13lbs 8oz – 18lbs/6.1-8.2kg and 62-68cm in height) so you can choose the best fit for your baby.

Slim fitting through the chest to enable full freedom of movement without restriction or excess bulk with a roomy, hip-healthy bottom. Below is a helpful list of the safety advice from our experts; sleep consultant Maria Murphy and Kate Holmes, Head of Support and Infomation at Lullaby Trust.

If you choose to swaddle your baby with their arms free as they get older, you may want to adjust their clothing. In the recommended nursery temperature of 61-68°F (16-20°C) we advise using a cotton long-sleeved sleepsuit or both a bodysuit and long-sleeved sleepsuit.

Our Swaddlebags have been designed to be snug up top and wriggly down below - slim fitting through the chest to enable full freedom of movement without restriction or excess bulk with a roomy, hip-healthy bottom to allow your baby to adopt a natural “frog-legged” sleeping position, which is important for correct hip development. Mix it up: You should also give your baby lots of opportunity to explore out of the swaddle, 'so pop them down on the floor and let them move around,' says Ratcliffe. 'This will help with startle reflex and organising their voluntary movements as well.' The Tommee Tippee Baby Sleep Bag for Newborns helps young babies to feel cosy and secure. The Original Grobag Swaddle Bag improves the quality of their natural sleep. Please refer to What to Wear guide to ensure you dress your baby in the correct clothing under our Swaddlebags. If it feels chilly, give them a cuddle and pop them into a long sleeved baby-grow. Whereas, if it feels a bit hot then remove one of their layers, suggests Ratcliffe. 'If they are swaddled they might have too much on underneath so loosen the swaddle,' Sleep, temperature, and comfort are closely intertwined, and behaviours geared towards creating a comfortable sleep environment are present in all mammals – from the little mouse curling up in its burrow to the person buying bedding for their home. If we can keep baby at a nice and comfy temperature throughout the night, we can avoid any unnecessary wake ups due to them being too hot or too cold. Providing your child with a comfortable sleep environment is one of the best things you can do, to help your baby sleep better and for longer, night after night. Therefore, we teamed up with sleep scientists and a qualified paediatrician at Northumbria University, to develop a dual-tog All-Season Grobag™. Suitable for use in temperatures ranging from 14-27+°C, featuring removable insulation it can be easily adjusted from a 2.5 tog to a 1.0 tog sleep bag. If parents need to adjust baby’s temperature while they are sleeping, they can safely add or remove warmth using the outer zip ‘n’ pop layers with minimal disturbance to baby. With breathable mesh, positioned in high-heat areas, it enhances baby’s ability to efficiently release excess heat, which supports their natural temperature regulation and ultimately helps to keep them comfortable for a good night's sleep.

Made from soft 100% cotton-rich, fluorescent-free fabric, our Swaddlebags are snuggly and kind on baby’s skin – perfect for a comfortable night’s sleep. As we said, every baby is different and some may prefer to stretch out after only a few days or weeks, while others will enjoy the cosy feeling for longer. Experiment and see what works for your little one.

Tested by mum Jo Eden-Sangwell for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

When testing swaddles we consider a number of factors including ease of use, material, comfort and value for money. The product is different to anything else on the market, as it combines a swaddle and a Grobag in one which is previously unavailable. This is useful for those (like me) that can't get the hang of swaddling using either special swaddle blankets, or regular blankets. This also takes the worry out of having to use blankets when my baby is too small to go in a regular Grobag. Never swaddle above the shoulders: 'Do not swaddle a baby’s head,' advises Ratcliffe. 'And never put a hat on unless it’s been medically advised, as they could risk overheating which then becomes a sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) risk.'

It is a really nice lightweight material, but is really cleverly designed so that baby is comfortably swaddled without overheating. It also comes in lots of nice designs to suit various nursery themes. It feels very good quality and it also washes very well. I've washed it a few times and it still looks brand new – as all mums will know, this is a great selling point with unpredictable babies!dc1 went into sleeping bags from around 4 months, and we used them until he was nearly 3. There's no issues with the child becoming uncovered overnight, and it also means they can't climb over the cot rails!! Some parents swear by the soothing powers of a tightly fitted muslin during the early days. 'That deep pressure from the swaddle can make them feel safer as it replicates that tight feeling they get in the womb, so it helps with that transition from womb to world,' adds Ratcliffe. Wrapping or swaddling a baby in this super soft cotton rich fabric helps mimic the closeness of the womb. Swaddling baby in a baby sleeping bag can suppress the startle reflex that sometimes wakes a baby up, so newborns and parents can both enjoy more sleep.
