About this deal

Your tyre inflator will either feature an old-fashioned gauge display or a digital one. Digital air compressors give a clear, easy-to-read format, whereas gauges can be disrupted by the compressor and tend to move about quite a bit when it’s in use. The RAC 900 is a 30Amp machine, hence if on full load is 3 times over a "ciggy lighter's" rating as cyberyacht points out. I keep mine at home as accessing directly onto my car's battery is "challenging". In using them, we could also determine if their power leads and air hoses were long enough – longer ones make the units easier to position and cordless ones are even better. We also found that the screw-on style couplings were the best and easiest to use. the process to short stages, letting the pump and power cable cool off. Admittedly you've got to have patience, but This one looks the business but I am concerned that it may be too technical for us in that it needs to be connected directly onto the battery. Is this a relatively easy thing to do? (Can I connect the terminals to my leisure battery without disconnecting the motorhome terminals?)

This compressor features a pressure preset function and the LCD screen displays four units of pressure readings. Set your pressure and the inflator will stop once it’s complete. Thanks to the memory function, you won’t have to adjust the required pressure for each tyre.

Verdict

There is an ON/OFF switch at the motor end of the casing with a nice translucentrubber dust cover over it. I don’t know if it is completely waterproof. The 2.4m length of the battery connection cables, plus the 7-metre (extended) length of the air-line, should allow any of wheels of most motorhomes to be reached if (as Keithl has mentioned above) the pump is connected to a Ducato’s engine-compartment ‘jump start’ points. While this 12V digital air compressor is not the most accurate nor the most durable, it is handy and stores neatly in your car boot. Unfortunately, the instructions are very poor and we’d advise you to try it out several times on arrival to familiarise yourself with the product.

strokes of the best pump could add 12psi, but don't forget that the tyre being inflated during the test was an ordinary car tyre and that only relatively low pressures were involved. It would be completely unrealistic to expect that pump to be capable of inflating one of your motorhome's tyres from 0psi to 69psi with 288 strokes. (Even if it could, that's still a helluva lot of strokes.) When it comes to searching for the best tyre inflator, there are a huge number of great products to choose from. If you have better things to do than trawl through comparisons of different tyre inflators, we recommend going for the highly popular and reliable AA 12V Digital Tyre Inflator.

It would be difficult to remove dirt from inside the connectors, so keep dirt out of them. Once inside it may prevent them sealing when coupled. This is one of thearguments againstthis device. Connecting The Air Compressor RAC900 To The Car Battery To Give It Power I also have had a halfords one for about 5 years - seems bomb proof - use it for m/h, car, motorbike, pushbike - the works + the gauge seems accurate!

The Ring RAC700 4×4 Air Compressor weighs a hefty 2.091kg and measures 175mm high, 200mm wide and 130mm deep. For over 10 years Ring has been developing portable tyre inflators. In that time, Ring has become a market leader, winning numerous product awards across the UK and Europe: I've managed to inflate m/home tyres to 5 Bars plus, sometimes from flat with quite small 12v inflators by limiting The mini test pitched the Ring RAC900 Air Compressor against a newly released product, and assessed both on inflation rate, hose and lead length, as well as the accessories that come with each. The Ring RAC900 performed well across the board, being named “a great little machine”. During inflation, “Ring has the edge”, adding 3PSI more per minute to the tyre compared to the competition. The analogue gauge was “more accurate”, the air release valve was noted, as was the fact that “everything goes together via quality brass fittings”.The cable management system is another big plus point. The airline wraps neatly around the top while the 3.5-metre power cable neatly slips around the base of the unit. It allows the device can be neatly stored away in the storage bag. This is something that is nigh-on impossible for lesser tyre inflators once the airline has been unfurled. Can you recalibrate the pressure gauge, as our old compressor I think is now running 10psi over the real psi level? A few weeks ago I passed a friend in the street who was inflating his car tyres on his driveway witha RING Automotive Air Compressor RAC900. He was eagerly showed me his new tyre pump which was powered by his car battery. He explained that it had the advantages over other tyre pumps because it: It has worked faultlessly many times but they do have limitations, I never run continuously for long periods, which would be needed for inflating a large tyre from near flat. I've no interest in further cluttering up my garage with the type of compressor you bought, but I do value the versatility of a powerful 12V tyre-pump that takes up little storage space and can travel with me in my motorhome. If people are looking for a pump most suitable for inflating motorhome tyres at any time or place, then I don't think there's anything better on the market than the RAC-900. If they just want a mains-powered pump, then they can do as you did, but they won't be able to travel with it.

Diving straight in, the RAC830 was straightforward to use straight out of the box. I had the pressure readout adjusted (PSI, KPA and BAR are offered) and the correct pressure selected in a couple of seconds and without any swearing. The sturdy but limited controls play favourably with this tyre inflator. An on/off button, a dial, and the light button. It's about 2ft long and takes up more space than a compressor but really easy to use IMO no leads to move around. also use it on the bikes ! Downside is cost (though I think it's very reasonable for the quality on offer) and bulk - it comes in a bag the size of a rugby ball.

Technical Specifications

Sorry to hear your yellow hose is damaged and needs replacing. You could try binding the hole with several layers of good PVC electrical tape if the pipe is clean and the holes are somewhere away from the connectors on the ends. Cordless tyre inflators are becoming increasingly popular, however, you should still look for a model that offers an additional power source, such as your vehicle’s 12V port or direct connection to your battery. Over time, your batteries could lose charge and you may find yourself stranded.
