About this deal

I prefer this book, as there is far less need for scene-setting: Varjak Paw has already moved from his life as a pampered housecat into the rough and dangerous city streets, already created his little gang of friends, so the entire book is focused on his mission to right wrongs and to make the city's cats free again. He has written widely about literature, films and the arts for The Guardian and The Daily Telegraph; and works regularly with CLPE, promoting reading and literacy in schools. Varjak and his friends made it back to the city center, out of Sally Bones' territory, and they meet Cludge there. So Sally Bones gradually evolved as I worked on the book, and became much more interesting, I think!

Other than that I still loved this story, and will be reading the 3rd book if it does come or is made. Varjak Paw [ ] Holly first meets Varjak in a park, letting him shelter in a hut with her, even though she thinks he is a gang member at first, until she spots his collar. Now Varjak must use the Way to survive in a city full of dangerous dogs and cats and strange goings on. Together they try and take down Sally Bones because of what she and her gang do by ripping off limbs such as ears, legs and heads.

From that point on our read aloud sessions sadly stopped as Naomi wouldn’t part with the book, she devoured the rest of the story really quickly and read it more than once. With stunning illustrations from acclaimed graphic artist Dave McKean, this award-winning story has become a modern classic.

I am so excited to read on and can't wait to find out what happens to the family, Sally Bones and Razor.

My class have been blown away by Varjak Paw and we were about to get started on The Outlaw Varjak Paw after Easter. though my agent says I can't give you permission to sell those stories, or make money from them in any way. Varjak is shown to be thought of as a disgrace to the Family name because he has amber eyes - "the colour of danger". I like how it continued with the mysterious character sally bones being the enemy in this one, and how it gotten worse with her running things.

Thank you so much for your fantastic message - and please thank your friend for begging you to read Phoenix, that really means a lot to me! F. Said had to say on the subject back in 2013, "There will definitely be a third Varjak Paw book, but I don't think there'll be more. Varjak walks in, and at first the dogs try to kill him, treating him as an intruder, but then Cludge walks in and tells the dogs that Varjak is a friend. To open a gateway between worlds,' said the tyger, in the darkness of the ruin, 'you must first of all see the possibility of a gateway.Anyway, I am going to read all your books and my mum and I are looking forward to getting Tyger when it comes out. Again, thank you x100 for writing these, they're amazing and honestly I don't know what I would do without them. Razor also says that it's the law that if you're not in Sally Bones's Gang, you can't hunt mice, but you have to eat rubbish. I love the pictures in these books, the art style is so different, but it took away from the emersion sometimes when you'd have one sentence on a page, then the next would hold the picture, before the third finally continuing the tale.
